Therapeutic Services Descriptions:

Building Empowerment and Resilience Program for Women with a History of Interpersonal Trauma.

In this therapeutic group, we combine education, psychological skills training, and physical empowerment skill building. The class focuses on women regaining the belief and trust in their own voice and strength (internally and externally).   The educational component addresses issues related to violence such as prevalence of violence against women, societal expectations of women, and emotion regulation.  The psychological skill training addresses issues such as assertiveness, boundary setting, and communication skills.   The physical empowerment training involves experiencing the power (internal and external) that each one of us has inside, practice punching and kicking, and understanding escape techniques and targeting. The marriage of these two disciplines by someone who understands the depth of the psychological damage that can result from violence and abuse is unique and has the potential to be empowering and healing for women with a history of interpersonal violence.   It is not required that participants discuss their trauma history in group, although it is allowed if desired.

Building Empowerment and Resilience for Adolescent Girls with Depression and Anxiety.

In this therapeutic group, we combine education, psychological skills training, and physical empowerment skill building.   The educational component addresses issues related to depression/anxiety, understanding healthy relationships, prevalence of teenage dating violence, societal expectations of girls/women, and emotion regulation.  The psychological skill training addresses issues such as assertiveness, boundary setting, and communication skills.   The physical empowerment training involves experiencing the power (internal and external) that each one of us has inside, practice punching and kicking, and understanding escape techniques and targeting. The group focuses on the skill building components rather than the experience of specific mood symptoms.

Individual Psychotherapy:

I am an integrative psychotherapist who has been trained extensively in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) addresses how one's thoughts influences one's mood and behavior.   Psychodynamic therapy aims to identify the contribution of interpersonal relationships to patterns of behavior and emotional distress.  The specific methods used during therapy will be dependent on the client and the issues being addressed.

Assessment:
Comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments. Evaluations include an initial intake, individual testing sessions (typically 4-6 hours), and a feedback session.  Among other conditions, common presenting concerns include:

  • Cognitive/memory changes or impairment
  • Attentional concerns
  • Effects of trauma (cognitive and psychological effects)
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders
